Waffle benny, Silver cutlery, and Contest winner

December 22nd, 2010

Yesterday we went to Starving Artist for some eggs benedict over potato and chives waffles. We’ve been looking for new brunch places to try, and we’ll definitely be returning here. If you guys have any recommendations of places that are open on Mondays/Tuesdays that serve a great brunch, we’re all ears (besides Aunties & Uncles, Grapefruit Moon, Saving Grace, Mitzie’s, Yasis’s Place).

I also wanted to mention that we only have 2 pairs of Yuki Sakano cutlery left at the shop. Each piece is made by Yuki herself from solid Nickel silver, and then plated again one last time with pure silver. You can keep the beautiful light colour by polishing with a soft cloth, or as Yuki would intend, enjoy the tarnished silver as it naturally oxidizes.

$205 / set

I wanted to take this time to thank everyone for your encouraging words. We’ve got some pretty amazing artists we’re looking forward to working with this year, and I hope you’ll like our new products as much as we do!

As for the winner of the family of Oak birds here are the results:

The winner is…

Graham!

Congratulations, check your inbox!

  1. If you venture out to Leslieville, try Lady Marmalade or Bonjour Brioche, or if both are closed/full, go for OKOK, Toast or Edward Levesque’s kitchen. Otherwise, in the west end, go to the Hoof Cafe (across from the Black Hoof).

  2. Marben at Wellington & Portland is amazing, and they use Origins coffee which is really good too. I love Lady Marmalade as well

  5. Thanks for the suggestions guys! I am a serious bruncher so I’ve been to many…Sadly Bonjour Brioche is closed on Mondays, as are most of the places in Leslieville :( We don’t do weekend brunch so much, so it’s hard to find places during the week (Scandalized that over this past year Aunties and Uncles has been open on Mondays. 10 years of no Monday, and then blammo, Monday and I didn’t get the memo)!

I liked the toast soldiers at Easy breakfast but for some crazy weird reason I’ve had two incidents of undesirable objects in my food (plastic!) so I’ve kind of been turned off. I can usually turn my head once, but twice, not so, um, easy…

Must try Marben, and I’ve always wondered about Prague…just never actually walked through the door.

Ahh, keep em coming. We just discovered Poor John’s Cafe, which made us realize that some cafes have brunch…so we have our eyes peeled for those types of places.

  8. Marben’s brunch is fantastic and the breakfast at the Senator is a perennial favourite.

  9. The funny thing about that “designer” silver cutlery is that it is an exact copy of the traditional eating spoon and three-tined fork common in Korean households since the 1300s.
